What Utility Actually Means in Web3 (Most Projects Still Don't Know)
In 2021 and 2022, "utility" became the most important word in NFT marketing. Every project had it. Every roadmap promised it. Holders were told they would get: access to exclusive Discord channels, merchandise discounts, early access to future drops, voting rights in DAOs that never made meaningful decisions, and staking mechanisms that produced tokens with no underlying value.
Most of this was not utility. It was the performance of utility.
What Utility Actually Requires
Real utility has a specific structure: a token provides utility when the ongoing operation of a system depends on it, and the system produces value that the token captures or enables.
Let us be precise. A token that grants you access to a Discord channel is providing a one-time authentication function. Once you are in, the token is no longer doing anything. Its utility was consumed at the moment of entry. You now hold something whose ongoing value depends entirely on the speculative belief that the next person will pay more for it.
Contrast this with a token that gives its holder a voice in a system making ongoing decisions that affect its members. Now the token provides utility every time a vote occurs — which means its utility is ongoing, proportional to the number and significance of decisions being made, and directly tied to the actual activity of the system.
The Ytinu Utility Stack
The Foundation Pass provides utility at multiple layers simultaneously.
Moc Coin multiplier — every day that Moc Coin is earned within the Ytinu system, Foundation Pass holders stand earlier in the record. That standing does not expire; the record only deepens as the system grows.
Proof-earned XP — every day that XP is earned, every rank is proof-earned at the same pace for every citizen. What compounds is the record itself.
A Voice in the City — as the City matures, every holder carries a voice in the City — one holder, one voice. Every voice raised in the City is an instance of active utility.
Access priority — every drop, event, and new feature opens to Pass holders first. The system's growth becomes the Pass holder's ongoing advantage.
This is utility that functions every day, in a system designed to operate indefinitely. Not a roadmap. A working architecture.
