The Enemy Is Not a Person. It's Inertia.
The Ytinu community does not direct its energy at a person, a politician, a corporation, or a nation. It does not have a human enemy. This is deliberate, and it is one of the things that distinguishes the Ytinu community from the many communities built around opposition to a specific individual or group.
The common enemy of the Ytinu community is inertia.
What Inertia Means in This Context
In physics, inertia is the property of matter that causes it to resist changes in its state of motion. An object at rest tends to stay at rest. An object in motion tends to stay in motion. The greater the mass, the greater the inertia.
Social and institutional inertia works the same way. A system that has existed long enough to become large, established, and embedded in the habits and expectations of millions of people has enormous resistance to change. Not because the people within it are evil, or even particularly self-interested. Simply because the system has mass, and mass resists change.
The current economic system does not fail most people because the people who designed it were malicious. It fails because it was designed for a different era, for a different population, facing different conditions — and it has not updated. The inertia of the system is its most dangerous feature. Not its active malice. Its passive continuation.
Why This Distinction Matters for Community
A community built around opposition to a person or group requires the existence of that person or group to maintain its cohesion. When the target disappears — through election, retirement, or irrelevance — the community loses its binding force.
A community built around opposition to inertia has a target that is permanent and universal. Inertia does not retire. It does not lose an election. It does not become irrelevant. Every system that has ever existed has had inertia. Every system that will ever exist will have inertia.
The Ytinu community is not fighting inertia with opposition. It is building alongside it — creating an alternative that demonstrates what is possible when the inertia is acknowledged and circumvented rather than ignored.
