The 13 Chakras: What Happens Above the Crown and Below the Feet
Most people who have encountered chakra systems know the seven: Root, Sacral, Solar Plexus, Heart, Throat, Third Eye, Crown. This map — which corresponds to the main energy centres along the spine — is the version that entered popular culture through yogic tradition and has been widely disseminated through wellness and spiritual communities.
It is not the complete map.
The expanded chakra system recognises 13 energy centres — extending below the feet into the Earth and above the crown into what various traditions call the cosmic or stellar realms. The six additional centres are the ones that most people, even those familiar with the standard seven, have never worked with. They are also the ones that connect individual human consciousness to the largest scales of reality.
The 13 Energy Centres
Earth Star Chakra — located approximately 30cm below the feet. The anchor point connecting the individual energy body to the Earth's own energy field. In many esoteric traditions, this chakra must be grounded before any meaningful development of the higher centres is possible. Development without grounding produces instability.
Root Chakra (Muladhara) — the base of the spine. Safety, survival, the physical foundation.
Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana) — the lower abdomen. Creativity, sexuality, emotional intelligence.
Solar Plexus (Manipura) — the upper abdomen. Personal power, will, self-definition.
Heart Chakra (Anahata) — the chest. Love, connection, the bridge between lower and upper centres.
High Heart Chakra (Thymus) — between the Heart and the Throat. Compassion and unconditional love, the specifically human centre that connects individual heart to universal love.
Throat Chakra (Vishuddha) — communication, truth, expression.
Third Eye (Ajna) — perception, intuition, the inner vision that sees what the physical eyes cannot.
Crown Chakra (Sahasrara) — pure consciousness, connection to the universal field.
Causal Chakra — above the Crown. The bridge to the higher mental planes, the storage of the soul's accumulated wisdom across lifetimes (in traditions that hold this belief).
Soul Star Chakra — the personal gateway to universal consciousness. The bridge between the individual and the cosmic.
Galactic Chakra — the connection to the galactic centre. In esoteric cosmology, the point of connection to the intelligence that organises at the galactic scale.
Stellar Gateway — the highest centre. The full integration of individual consciousness with cosmic consciousness. The state of being fully connected to the source.
Why 13
The Ytinu 13 houses map to these 13 energy centres. Each house corresponds to one centre, reflecting the archetype that centre produces when it is the dominant developmental focus. The map was not invented. It was found.
